На самом деле причина ошибки описана ниже

как надо их ставить

Ставить их надо с усердием и прилежанием, в соответствии с заветами http://www.x.org.
Может таки прежеде чем что-то делать, вы потратите хотя бы 3-4 дня на чтение документации и изучение основ вашей ОС?
